Alessandria have become the first Lega Pro side to reach the Coppa Italia quarter-final in 32 years.
The minnows from Piedmont beat Palermo 3-2 in Sicily and then saw off Genoa 2-1 in extra time today, applauded by the home fans at Marassi for their remarkable achievement.
They will face either Roma or Spezia in the quarter-finals in 2016.
“I have been a Genoa fan since birth, but I couldn’t not celebrate that goal,” Manuel Marras told Rai Sport.

“This victory is the confirmation that with grit, sacrifice and team spirit you can go forward. Coach Angelo Gregucci has given a winning mentality to the side and united everyone.”
Alessandria hadn’t come this far since losing the Coppa Italia Final in 1935-36.
They are also the first Lega Pro (new name for Serie C) outfit to reach the quarter-finals since Bari in 1983-84.
Bari went on to the semi-finals that season, eliminating Juventus and Fiorentina along the way.
