Roberto Donadoni hopes Bologna “can learn a great deal from this” 3-2 defeat to Empoli.

The Rossoblu fought back twice, but were eventually beaten at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

“We can learn a great deal from games like this, such as which areas we still need to improve,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“If we just look at the result then it’s not helpful. We certainly wanted to end the year with a different result, but we must give credit to Empoli for their performance.

“We were a little too hesitant and timorous, but I don’t understand why. We must believe in ourselves, as that can make the difference in sport.

“Empoli were aggressive, while we weren’t sharp enough in attack. Too many times we were drawn to the ball and didn’t focus on the marking, taking it for granted someone else would do it. That’s what happened with Massimo Maccarone’s first goal.

“On the third goal we were a bit naïve on a long ball and lost sight of Maccarone’s marking.”

Mattia Destro scored a temporary equaliser for 2-2 and ran to hug Donadoni on the touchline.

“I told Mattia he needs to believe in himself more and fight for every ball. In that circumstance he went for it with determination and grit. I am happy for him, even if it wasn’t enough for a result tonight. We must all learn something from this game for our future.”
