Jose Callejon believes Napoli can win the Scudetto and “make Serie A history. I feel very Neapolitan.”

The Spaniard arrived under Rafa Benitez and confirmed to the Corriere dello Sport that he “still hears from him every now and then. The respect is reciprocal.

“We ended 2015 well, but are taking it one game at a time. The fans have fun with our style of football and so do we when playing.

“At the start it was always going to take a while to understand Maurizio Sarri’s methods and systems.”

The Partenopei are joint second with Fiorentina, only one point behind Serie A leaders Inter.

“Inter have the advantage of not playing in Europe, so they can rest during the week. I am sure their defeat to Lazio was just a hiccup.

“Fiorentina are playing great football and so far are the opponents who caused us the most problems. I expected Juventus to fall off the radar of the top spots, but they proved me wrong. I think Roma can get back on their feet quickly.

“We know that we are strong and we all want to make Serie A history. We respect our opponents, but do not fear them.

“I feel very Neapolitan and settled in to the city. There’s affection all around, I have many friends here and learned a bit of dialect, although some of those words are best kept private…”

Napoli are the only side with a 100 per cent record in the Europa League this season and face Villarreal in the next round.
