FIGC director Michele Uva said Antonio Conte’s future “will certainly be addressed” before Euro 2016.

The Coach is only contracted until the end of the tournament and has been repeatedly linked with a return to club football in Italy or abroad.

“We are in a competitive market, the Federation knows that clubs aspire to have a great Coach like Conte, but we have our plans,” director general Uva told Sky Sport Italia.

“We have not set a deadline, but in spring and before Euro 2016 the matter will certainly be addressed.”

This weekend Federation President Carlo Tavecchio shrugged off the uncertainty by saying “if one Pope dies, you elect another Pope.”

Uva picked up on that common Italian proverb with a version of his own.

“We have an issue of planning with Conte that regards all the levels of the Nazionale, not just the senior squad. Therefore the FIGC will do everything to keep its current Pope.”
