Giampiero Ventura was “angry” at Napoli’s second goal, as Torino fell to a 2-1 defeat at the San Paolo.
The Coach was sent off for dissent late on, but argued he was insulting his own players rather than the officials.
“The second goal made me angry because we were in position and still conceded,” Ventura told Mediaset Premium.
“We had until then held out well with focus and dignity. We should’ve given more, but we played like a team, which we didn’t do against Udinese before Christmas.
“I hope this can be the foundation to build on for the next few games. I don’t recall any big Daniele Padelli saves in the second half, which means we played with the right mentality.
“What do I expect from the transfer market? I’d rather have my current players back to full fitness, as the injuries have been a catastrophe.
“I was sent off because I punched the bench, but I was angry at a poor Cesare Bovo pass. That’s all. The referee said my gesture was similar to kicking a water bottle. There are people who throw their hats on the ground and tear off jackets, I just punched a bench. I didn’t know it wasn’t allowed.”
