“I am happy, the team did well and we deserved more,” Mihajlovic told Mediaset Premium.

“I want to say that real men always get back on their feet and we finished this game with our heads held high. After a shaky first 10 minutes, we controlled the match and dominated the second half.

“We didn’t win because we were unlucky with Juraj Kucka and Carlos Bacca, but we gave it our all and deserved to win.

“I thank the lads for putting in a great performance. This team deserves people to have faith in them.”

Boateng returned to Serie A after a spell at Schalke 04 and impressed coming off the bench.

“Boateng has character, charisma, quality and grit. He will be very important for us. Alessio Romagnoli needed a wake-up call today, as he lost Rudiger and Umar Sadiq, but he’s still young so he’ll learn from it.”
