Marotta: 'No big January buys'

Juventus director Beppe Marotta warned of “unpredictable” Sampdoria and told fans not to expect big January buys.

It kicks off at 19.45 GMT, follow the action on our LIVEBLOG.

“We are evaluating the development of the market, but I doubt there will be any big buys in January for the Serie A clubs,” he told Mediaset Premium.

“We will not buy players just for the sake of it, as we already have a very competitive squad. We will simply evaluate any possible opportunities that arise.

“The joy of football is how unpredictable it is and we face a Samp side that has shaken off the fear it had before the derby. They will play with more confidence and joy now, which of course makes them dangerous opponents.”

With Claudio Marchisio suspended, Hernanes is chosen in a deeper role and Max Allegri confirmed the Brazilian is no longer considered a trequartista.

“I believe the profile of the modern player is eclectic,” added Marotta. “Evidently the Coach must evaluate the resources available and adapt the individuals to the collective. I think today is the best available formation.”

There is also still confusion over what will happen to Alvaro Morata considering the various buy-back clauses between Juve and Real Madrid.

“We have a good rapport with Real Madrid, he is our player and we are not talking about this situation now. We’re in the running for three tournaments and want to focus on those.”

This is a return to Marassi for Marotta, who was a director at Sampdoria before moving to Juventus.

“It was a very special time for me and I still have an emotional bond with Samp, but I am very happy at Juventus.”
