Torino striker Fabio Quagliarella claims he left Napoli because of false links to the Camorra mafia.

The forward left the Partenopei to join Juventus in 2010, and testified today in a trial over alleged stalking by police officer Raffaele Piccolo.

It’s alleged that Piccolo sent defamatory and threatening letters to Quagliarella, his father and the clubs who employed him between 2007 and 2010.

“[President Aurelio] De Laurentiis sent me away from Napoli solely because of letters which spoke about me at drug parties with the Camorra,” Quagliarella testified in Torre Annunziata, as reported by Lo Strillone.

“Before, he’d call me every day. After the slanders, I was called to the headquarters in Castelvolturno in 2010, and the President told me to go and live in a hotel, to leave Castellammare to be more calm.

“After that he never called me.

“After the letters and text messages, I had to leave my city. When I went to Juve, the letters said that my family would be beaten for my leaving Napoli.”

After the testimony, Quagliarella left the court to return to Turin.
