“I must be more pumped up than the players by now,” smiled Viviani – the former assistant manager to Beppe Iachini.

The Rosanero have had a typically chaotic campaign, as they sacked Iachini in December and fired Davide Ballardini this week following a bitter row with captain Stefano Sorrentino.

“I want to enjoy this debut to the full. Obviously I really want to do well and prepared the match in the best possible way, with the absolute support of the group.

“I’ve already had a tense stomach ache for the last couple of days, but I like it like that.

“The team already knew certain approaches, by which I mean the three-man defence, so we went to confirm things the side felt more comfortable with.”

The departure of Ballardini also means Enzo Maresca has returned to the squad, plus new signings Norbert Balogh and Thiago Cionek.
