“We shouldn’t think of it as one player coming in to substitute another,” said the Coach in a Press conference.

“It was just a coincidence, but Zarate is not replacing Rossi. The transfer market gave us this opportunity. Zarate seems motivated and wants to prove what he can do. He has the quality to help us.

“I wish for Rossi what I have always wished, that he is happy. After a long recovery period, Fiorentina behaved extraordinarily well with him. At Levante he’ll have more room to play and I hope to see him again soon.”

Winger Tello also arrived on loan from Barcelona, via Porto.

“He is a quick player who can give us a hand on either flank, considering our style of football. He has the ability to be important in providing the final ball too.

“We won’t change our tactics or system with the new players. I believe in consistency even in difficult moments. Our principles must remain the same, even with some variations that will come in time.

“We are working to improve, building always on the principle that to win we must attack, not defend. Even in tough times we have to persevere. So far we’ve had more problems against sides that clam up rather than ones that press us.”

Torino are counter-attack specialists and beat Fiorentina earlier this season.

“In the first game they scored a series of goals in eight minutes to make life difficult for us. They are a mature, clinical team who know how to lull their opponents into a false sense of dominance. We have to focus on victory.”

Fiorentina fumbled the chance to go third last week thanks to a home defeat against Lazio, but Sousa insists nothing has changed.

“At the start of the season nobody expected us to be in this situation. This is why to reach the sky you must target the stars.”

Sousa was also asked to comment on the touchline row between Roberto Mancini and Maurizio Sarri, which saw the Napoli Coach receive a two-round Coppa Italia ban for using homophobic slurs.

“Anyone who experiences football from the inside knows that certain emotions take us to expressing ourselves in ways that are not always the best.

“We need to be aware that many young people see us and there are cameras everywhere. Coaches, like players, have a different way of communicating than they do off the field.

“I saw after the game that Mancini was very upset. We need to work harder to express ourselves better in a public setting.”
