Lazio director Igli Tare admits the team “lacks grit,” but stands up for under-fire Felipe Anderson.

The Aquile finished third last season, but currently sit in ninth place.

“Europe is a very important objective, both for results and prestige,” Tare told Tuttomercatoweb.

“We are concentrated and determined, even if many people don’t see us that way. This is a side that with the right tempo can still do well.

“We are concentrated and determined, even if many people don’t see us that way. This is a side that with the right tempo can still do well.

“The results say we lack grit, as there are games where we weren’t determined enough, but I never see the glass half-empty.

“We have helped many young players to grow and against Genoa we had seven who were aged under 23. Over the next few years we will achieve important results.

“We’ve had some ups and downs, it is basically the same team as last season with the inclusion of a few promising youngsters.”

Felipe Anderson was the subject of a reported €50m offer from Manchester United, but his form recently suggests Lazio should’ve taken the money.

“Felipe Anderson is still young, this is his third season at Lazio and everyone knows him by now,” explained Tare.

“They have been studying his movements and put more effort into blocking him off. He has quality beyond the norm and needs just a little step up to grow.”
