The last few days have been dominated by reports, confirmed by Coach Luciano Spalletti, that director of sport Sabatini could quit at the end of the season.

“Sabatini has always wanted to sign an annual contract, because he feels the club ought to evaluate his work season by season. He feels responsible for Roma’s season, but that is nothing new,” Baldissoni told Mediaset Premium.

“We have always been more worried about his health than his resignation, seeing how much he smokes!

“In football the scenario changes every week, also based on results. His vision is that he feels responsible for a campaign that is below expectations.

“Roma have quality in this squad and for a certain period we didn’t see it, so there was uncertainty in the performances.

“The change of training sessions generated an increased interest and there was a shake-up of the hierarchy with a new Coach.

“All this elevated the level of performance and of weekly work. We did expect to see the players change how reactive they were and their psychological alertness.”
