Jose Mourinho reveals his Inter exit for Real Madrid was so abrupt because “emotions would’ve been uncontrollable.”

The Special One flew in today and will attend tonight’s Serie A game with Sampdoria as a guest of former President Massimo Moratti.

“I prepared well to take over at Inter,” he told reporters at the airport.

“I had a lot of time after my Chelsea farewell, so I studied the language and that got me off to a strong start. It was a magical time.

“I did not return before now because I didn’t have time while working, but also because I wanted to be here with more controlled emotions and time does help in these situations.”

Mourinho won the Treble at Inter, but did not return to Italy after the Champions League Final in Madrid.

“Maybe some didn’t understand why I did that. Those who know me, like the players, realise I might’ve refused to leave the stadium afterwards. My emotions would’ve been uncontrollable. It’d be too difficult to keep them in check.

“Maybe today a few tears will roll down my cheek, but it’ll be different. Do I expect chants from the fans for me? No, I expect chants for Inter.

“I think the Treble campaign really started the day we lost at Old Trafford in the Champions League in 2009. Moratti and I realised we had to change many things.

“Moratti was the great architect behind it, so he and the fans were decisive. I repeat, you arrive at Inter as a professional, but you leave as much more. When you play and work, there is a super sense of empathy between the club and its fans.

“This something extra is what allowed the team to achieve a miracle like resisting at Camp Nou with 10 men against Barcelona and then to ‘eat up’ Bayern Munich in the Final.”

Mourinho also spoke as a fan when it came to the current Coach Roberto Mancini.

“You can tell he has a good rapport with Erick Thohir. We certainly won’t win the Scudetto this season, but if we get back into the Champions League, or at least the Europa League, it’ll be an improvement on previous campaigns.”
