Totti was dropped for last night’s 5-0 win over Palermo after a television interview complaining about the lack of playing time.

“I was surprised by some of Francesco’s comments, but at the same time I understand it was borne of frustration.

“He is a great player, he wrote Roma history, adores to compete and is a superstar,” said Pallotta.

“But Luciano Spalletti is our Coach and since he arrived many things have changed for the better. What he did was dictated by a fundamental principle: the team comes first and no player is above the rest.

“It is absolutely not true that Spalletti disrespected Totti, that is just speculation.”
