Sousa: ‘Spurs one of Europe’s best’

Fiorentina Coach Paulo Sousa calls Tottenham Hotspur “one of the best teams in Europe” and is glad Dele Alli can play.

The Viola face the second leg of their Europa League Last 32 tie at White Hart Lane tomorrow, after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

“Tottenham are one of the best teams in Europe at the moment,” Sousa claimed in his pre-match Press conference.

“They have a huge desire to win, they want to do well in every competition and impose their style of play.

“In the first 90 minutes we were statistically well balanced in possession and and attacking play. We could have won and we’d have deserved it.

“I think tomorrow will be a similar game, we have to be ourselves. In the first leg we were able to cause them problems, even from a physical point of view.

“We’ll have to show great intensity from beginning to end.”

Spurs midfielder Dele Alli risked a red card in the first leg when he kicked Nenad Tomovic, but Sousa is glad the 19-year-old is available for tomorrow.

“The best thing is to see the best players on the pitch, because they contribute to the spectacle.

“For us? I think everyone is available. Borja [Valero] won’t be on the pitch but he’s not at risk. [Josip] Ilicic is fine.”

Pochettino’s side are competing for the Premier League title, could they take their eye off the ball in the Europa League?

“I think Pochettino’s mentality is always to win,” Sousa shrugged.

“It’ll always be that way. I can’t understand why a Coach would give up on one competition to focus on another. And he’s very competitive.”
