Stephan El Shaarawy confirms after his brace that he “came to Roma to give my career a turning point and target Euro 2016.”
The striker had a dismal six-month spell at Monaco, but has rediscovered his form since joining Roma in January on loan with option to buy for €13m from Milan.
“I am very happy with my first brace in a Roma jersey, but also with the performance of the team,” he told Sky Sport Italia after a 3-1 win at Empoli.

“We prepared well for this match and if we continue to take what we do during the week on to the field, we will keep doing well.
“After six months at Monaco I came here with the desire to show everyone what I could do. Before making the decision I was shown a lot of faith by the Coach and the director of sport Walter Sabatini.
“I knew that I couldn’t make a mistake this time. I started well, have to continue like this and find consistency in my performances and goals.”
Italy Coach Antonio Conte’s assistant Mauro Sandreani was in the stands for today’s game.
