Roma President James Pallotta and Captain Francesco Totti could meet before Sunday to discuss a contract renewal.
The Giallorossi icon is frustrated about his lack of playing time and may announce his retirement if he is not guaranteed a place in the squad.
To defuse the situation, a meeting with the President has been scheduled now that Pallotta is in the capital. One preliminary meeting already took place but proved inconclusive.
Pallotta is expected to offer a renewal of Totti's contract on new terms, presumably with an option to extend at the end of every season.
The meeting may take place before this Sunday, or it could be deferred until after Tuesday's Champions League match against Real Madrid, in which the Lupi head to the Bernabeu in an effort to reverse a 2-0 loss.
It remains to be seen whether Totti will be convinced by Pallotta's offer that he is still part of the club's project.
The 39-year-old could choose to end his career as a player and take up a role as a director instead.
