Kostas Manolas had regrets after Roma lost to Real Madrid. “They scored and we didn’t – that’s football.”

The Giallorossi wasted several opportunities in both legs, but lost 2-0 home and away in the Champions League Round of 16.

“Of course we need to have more belief, because if you play against Real Madrid with fear then you will lose,” Manolas told Roma TV.

The Giallorossi wasted several opportunities in both legs, but lost 2-0 home and away in the Champions League Round of 16.

“Of course we need to have more belief, because if you play against Real Madrid with fear then you will lose,” Manolas told Roma TV.

“We proved we could play them on level terms and created so many chances, but they scored and we didn’t – that’s football. I don't think this Madrid side is much stronger than us.

“When you lose there is no great performance. We are Roma and when we lose we are angry, of course.

“We created so many really clear-cut scoring opportunities, yet we still lost.

“Real Madrid are a strong side, but there’s Barcelona and Bayern Munich, so I wouldn’t call them favourites for the trophy.”

Francesco Totti came off the bench for what was probably his final Champions League game and was given a warm ovation at the Bernabeu.

“As we all know, Totti is like a God at Roma and in my view the greatest player in Italy. He’s an incredible guy and captain, so we love having him with us.”
