Antonio Conte will reportedly bring Federico Bernardeschi to Euro 2016 instead of Lorenzo Insigne.
The Italy Coach seems to be won over by the Fiorentina man’s work rate and versatility, as he can play as a striker, a supporting figure or out wide on the right.
The 22-year-old has scored only one Serie A goal in 24 games this season, providing four assists.
He has been more prolific in the Europa League, netting four times in seven appearances.
Insigne, on the other hand, has been one of the key figures in Napoli’s Scudetto push.
The 24-year-old has 11 goals and 10 assists in 27 Serie A matches, plus one of each in five Europa League games.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Conte will drop Insigne partly as punishment for leaving the Italy camp due to a minor knee problem in October.
He had been called up for the games against Azerbaijan and Norway, but preferred to have his knee looked at by Napoli medics rather than continue his treatment with the Azzurri.
Insigne has six senior caps for Italy and scored one goal, but hasn’t featured for the Nazionale since the 2014 World Cup.
He played 33 minutes of that tournament in the 1-0 defeat to Costa Rica.
