Novellino: 'Palermo enthusiasm'

Walter Novellino has “a lot of enthusiasm” for this new experience at Palermo, making his debut against Napoli.

It kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 GMT, click here for a match preview.

The last few months have been chaotic in Sicily with eight different changes of management since November, culminating in Beppe Iachini’s dramatic resignation.

“I have a lot of enthusiasm,” assured new boss Novellino in today’s Press conference.

“With my experience I hope to give Palermo a hand to reach Serie A safety. We are facing a very strong side and need a perfect performance in terms of character above all else.

“I am convinced every game has to be played and can provide a surprise, naturally with all due respect for the talent on show at Napoli.

“We want to do well, even if it is a difficult situation. The fans have to help us with their support.”

The main problem with changing management so many times is that each tactician brought a different system, so how will Novellino approach it?

“I watched some of the old games back and studied the situation. Obviously a Coach cannot think of transforming everything in three days, he can only try to put the players in a condition to do well.

“Knowing Iachini, I was sure he’d work well with the team. He is like a son to me, after all, and we’ve done great things together.

“The only thing I can work on right now is the players’ heads. We have to talk less and work more.”

Edoardo Goldaniga and Achraf Lazaar are still unavailable.
