Milan are reconsidering Axel Witsel as rumours emerge that he will leave Zenit St Petersburg in the summer.

The Belgian midfielder was insistently linked with the Rossoneri last season, but ultimately nothing came of the talks.

Now the Italian club's interest is being rekindled as the 27-year-old is believed to be on the way out of the Russian club.

According to Belgian outlet SportMagazine, Witsel is disappointed after his team was knocked out of the Champions League and is not pleased with the club's shrinking prospects.

Apparently the player wishes to leave Russia and he does not intend to renew his contract, which expires in 2017.

Zenit may be forced to sell him at a relatively cheap starting price to avoid letting him go as a free agent the following year.

If other teams attempt to take advantage of the situation, however, a bidding war may develop, meaning that Milan would still have to pay a high price for the player.
