Jorginho and Thiago set for Italy calls

Antonio Conte calls his Italy squad to face Germany and Spain today, which should include Jorginho, Thiago Motta and Lorenzo Insigne.

The Coach announced he will be leaving the job after Euro 2016, but first has a couple of high-profile friendlies to play.

The Azzurri host Spain at the Dacia Arena in Udine on March 24, then visit World Cup holders Germany in Munich on March 29.

Conte has been accused of snubbing players from second-placed Napoli, calling Insigne only once during a spell interrupted by a knee injury.

As there is an injury crisis ruling out Claudio Marchisio and Marco Verratti, Conte is expected to give Jorginho his maiden senior Italy call-up.

“I have good news, Jorginho will be called up for the Nazionale by Conte,” Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri’s agent Alessandro Pellegrini told TV Luna.

“I am certain he’ll be in the squad, but not so sure on Insigne…”

It’s even possible Insigne will be left out in favour of his Napoli teammate Manolo Gabbiadini, who can’t get a game at club level because of competition with the little Italian.

There are reports that Fiorentina winger Federico Bernardeschi will be called up even after being named in the Italy Under-21 side earlier this week.

However, Sassuolo star Domenico Berardi remains with the Azzurrini, coached by Gigi Di Biagio.

There could also be recalls for Torino hitman Ciro Immobile and Stefano Okaka, who has rediscovered his scoring form at Anderlecht.

An extra shock could be the return of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Motta to the Italy fold if Milan’s Riccardo Montolivo is injured.

It would be the 33-year-old’s first call-up since the 2014 World Cup, when Cesare Prandelli was the Coach.
