Stefano Pioli felt Lazio have lacked consistency and confidence at both ends of the pitch after their stalemate at Milan.

The Aquile held Milan to a 1-1 draw at San Siro just days after their 3-0 home Europa League defeat to Sparta Prague.

“This is the sign of a team that is disappointed by the Europa League exit, but acted professionally and will try to end the season well, even though we expected it to go very differently,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Senad Lulic was sent off this evening and will therefore be suspended for the Derby della Capitale against Roma.

“We have to prepare the derby in the best possible way, as we know it’s a chance to give ourselves and our fans something to celebrate.

“What interests me is that the players work for the team and give their best. It hasn’t always happened this season, as we tended to be a bit too individualistic and didn’t think as a unit. This evening was a definite improvement in that sense.

“Unfortunately this term we have never been as calm and focused as we wanted to be, so it becomes difficult to play the kind of football we aim for in those conditions.

“We tend to create a lot, as our statistics show we put in many crosses and have a lot of possession, but don’t finish off our chances. At the same time, we allow few chances and yet concede very easily, so each end of the field is an issue.

“With the Champions League play-off defeat and the Italian Super Cup, our season started in a bad way and we never quite recovered.”

Pioli was asked if he will still be the Lazio Coach next season.

“I have a contract, but at the end of the season it is only right that we get together, analyse everything and make a decision for the greater good.”
