Antonio Conte “got the response I was looking for” as Italy held Spain to a 1-1 draw, dominating the game.

Lorenzo Insigne opened the scoring before Aritz Aduriz got the equaliser, though it should’ve been ruled offside.

“The draw with Romania was certainly unfair. Then we conceded a goal on a set play and we did it again today, even if it was offside.

“The draw with Romania was certainly unfair. Then we conceded a goal on a set play and we did it again today, even if it was offside.

“I got the response I was looking for against a very strong side like Spain,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

“We must continue working with humility, focusing on the enthusiasm of these lads. I cannot ask for more in terms of attitude in training. We just need to keep our heads down and keep working.

“I can guarantee to all Italians that we will be a team. This is an excellent group made up of good lads who love the shirt and want to represent Italy.

“We can relax on that count. We will be a team and will try to do our best. We’ll see. Games like this are helpful to increase the international experience of some lads.

“I always want to win, so the result is disappointing.”

Insigne changed the game when he came off the bench, while Federico Bernardeschi was also impressive on his debut.

“Antonio Candreva, Graziano Pellè and Eder also did well. Inevitably if you have the chance to change three key roles with fresh legs, the story will change.”
