Benassi: 'U21 victory obligatory'

Marco Benassi warned “victory is obligatory” when the Italy Under-21 side visit Andorra on Tuesday.

The Azzurrini are top of European Championship qualifying Group 2 with a three-point lead over Serbia, having fought back from an early shock to crush the Republic of Ireland 4-1 on Thursday.

“We are very satisfied with the result earned in Waterford,” said Torino midfielder Benassi in a Press conference.

“Even if we did not get off to a great start, we proved that we are a solid and unified squad.

“We are humble and have the desire to work hard, so these are factors that can make the difference. Against Andorra, victory is obligatory.”

That qualifier kicks off at the Municipal Stadium in Andorra on Tuesday at 17.30 UK time (16.30 GMT).

The Under-21 side visits Barcelona’s Camp Nou later this morning to present a signed Italy Number 14 shirt at the shrine for Johan Cruyff.
