Alessandro Florenzi admits he would’ve “preferred to score under the Curva Sud” after Roma’s 4-1 derby victory.

The only home-grown Romanista on the pitch, he scored to secure the success over Lazio and was wearing the captain’s armband.

“It gave me a lot of motivation and courage to not give in,” Florenzi told Sky Sport Italia.

“The captain’s armband has this special aura and it brought us to the victory we wanted for the fans, both those inside the Olimpico and outside.”

Ultras from both sides boycotted the game as they continue their protest against new safety barriers dividing up the Curve.

“It was emotional to score my first derby goal. I’d never really done it in big games either, but I was able to work hard and do well.

“Of course, I would’ve preferred to score a goal under the Curva Sud…  It’s not nice to play this way without the fans from both sides. It’s not right that we have to play like this.”

With Napoli’s 3-1 defeat at Udinese today, Roma are now only four points off second place.

“We would’ve believed anyway because we never give up and now we have to keep trying to impose our play on the opposition in every game.”
