Coach Paulo Sousa wants Fiorentina to return to their earlier levels of consistency after drawing with Sampdoria.

It ended 1-1 between the Gigliati and the Blucerchiati. The result leaves Sousa's team in fourth place, but the gap with third-placed Roma has widened by another two points.

“We're much more inconsistent by comparison with the beginning of the season,” he told Radio Rai. “Today we did a few things right against a team that is showing signs of growth.

“We're much more inconsistent by comparison with the beginning of the season,” he told Radio Rai. “Today we did a few things right against a team that is showing signs of growth.

“We took the lead, but allowed them to equalise shortly before the break. We paid that on a mental level.

“The lads try to give it their all. The drive is there, they have a good heart. We'll try to get out of this winless period.”

Sousa met the former Fiorentina Coach on the other bench, Vincenzo Montella, and was happy to exchange a hug.

“One of the first things my parents taught me was respect. If you want to get respect, you've got to give it first.

“There may have been different ideas or other things [between Montella and the club], but I try to be respectful towards everyone.”
