Gigi De Canio wants Udinese to “fight like that against every opponent” after beating Scudetto contenders Napoli.

The 3-1 victory effectively ended the Partenopei’s title hopes and put the Friulani further away from the danger zone.

“Udinese need more points to secure safety and that means we must fight like that against every opponent,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We put three precious points under our belts. After two years out, it was really pleasing to return to work with a result like this against a great team.

“I don’t think Napoli were irritable at the start, but we did make life very difficult for them, so we deserve credit for limiting their performance.

“Badu was the player I needed with his explosive pace to contain Napoli. We didn’t just focus on defending, as I like to play games.

“My team followed my suggestions and motivation. I think this match can also help boost our self-esteem for next season.”

De Canio took a huge risk by dropping Antonio Di Natale from the squad.

“I didn’t want to create any controversy, nor am I angry with Di Natale. Nobody has been frozen out. It’s just that over the last two weeks he never really trained with the team.

“I play who trains, so I hope Di Natale and Maurizio Domizzi want to put themselves at the disposal of the team and understand what I want from them.”
