Simone Inzaghi is “very proud” to make his Serie A management debut for Lazio against Palermo tomorrow evening.
It kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT), click here for a match preview.
“It has been a special week for me,” said the new boss in a Press conference.
“When I started out as a Coach, this was my objective and I’ve achieved it. I am happy and very proud. I can’t wait to get started.”
Inzaghi had been the Lazio youth team Coach for several years, but was promoted when Stefano Pioli received his marching orders.
“We must play these last seven games at the top and from what I’ve seen in training we can do very well.
“Of course I want to be the Lazio Coach in future, but right now we have to focus on reacting to an ugly derby defeat.
“I actually played with Stefan Radu and Stefano Mauri. I also played under Walter Novellino, who is on the Palermo bench tomorrow.
“I just asked the team to work with me and clearly after a loss to Roma the confidence is not going to be high.
“I spoke to the players in training and then we went on to the field to try some things out. The team wants to get back on track.
“What I will say is that whoever deserves to play will get the chance. I have always used 4-3-3 in my teams, so we will start from that.
“The first thing I did when I was told that I’d become Coach was speak to Pioli. It was a relaxed conversation, we didn’t just talk about football, but what we said will remain between us.”
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic returns from injury, but Inzaghi calls up youth team players Luca Germoni and Simone Mattia.
