Roberto Mancini felt Inter thoroughly deserved their 1-0 win at Frosinone and retains hope for third place.

The match was decided by a lone Mauro Icardi header, but the hosts were very unlucky to hit the woodwork three times.

“Nobody had an easy time of it here,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“Frosinone are trying to build their Serie A safety with home results and are having a great campaign. If we look at the first half, we should’ve already been 2-0 up, as we had four good chances and they disallowed a perfectly valid goal.

“We were always in control up until that point, but Frosinone had to emerge eventually. The first time they hit the post it was on a counter-attack, then from two set plays.”

Even with this result, Inter remain outsiders to catch Roma for that third Champions League spot.

“Every game has to be played and we’ll see where we are at the end of the season. We’ll give everything we’ve got to leapfrog Roma, but it will be tough.

“As long as there are points up for grabs, we have to fight,” added Mancini.

“I thought the first half was not just good, but excellent today. Yesterday I said that a Coach depends on results, while the players have always given their all, even if we lost a few games without deserving to. This is football and you have to accept that.”

Stevan Jovetic was given a rare start, his first in over six weeks.

“He has more quality than most and I hope he can score important goals this season. Icardi moved a lot today and above all he did what strikers are supposed to do – scored a goal.”
