Ballardini: 'Palermo to attack Juve'

Davide Ballardini is back on the Palermo bench and wants “a team that will attack Juventus” on Sunday.

“The team and I are concentrated on what happens on the pitch,” said Ballardini in this morning’s Press conference.

The Sicilians are in the drop zone and this week made their ninth change of management, sacking Walter Novellino after just four games to recall Ballardini.

“I want a Palermo side that controls the ball and tries to attack Juventus. I saw the team work very hard, is focused and we have some very good ingredients in this group.

“Tomorrow Palermo have to focus on themselves and not Juventus. Our real strength is the fans and our people do not deserve everything that is happening.

“We have never lacked for effort and want to turn this trend around straight away.”

Franco Vazquez is available again after suspension against Lazio, but Robin Quaison sits out a ban instead.

“We have a good mix of quality and experience in attack. We’ve got Alberto Gilardino, but can also rely on youngsters like Aleksandar Trajkovski and Uros Djurdjevic.

“In midfield we have different alternatives. Gaston Brugman is an intelligent player with quality, as are Ivaylo Chochev, Oscar Hiljemark and Mato Jajalo.

“In defence Edoardo Goldaniga is available, he has recovered from his injury.”

“There are many players in this squad that I like and that is why I returned. I won’t calculate the likelihood of Palermo securing safety, but I will say this team has the capability to do well and get points.

“There is no sense of resignation, we want to do well and the team has what it takes.”

This week President Maurizio Zamparini said he’ll stick with Ballardini even if Palermo drop into Serie B.

“I am not even thinking about relegation,” replied the Coach.
