The Coach won his first two games in charge, but has now lost two on the trot away to Juventus and Samp.

“There is huge regret, because we played really well,” Inzaghi told Rai Sport.

“Despite all that, we lost, because unfortunately this is football. We should’ve been more ruthless, you really can’t lose a game like this. It’s absurd.

“I am disappointed both for the lads and the fans. We lacked that clinical edge, the ability to kill off our opponents despite having numerous opportunities to do so. You can’t get away with anything in football and this is a lesson that we must learn from.”

Antonio Candreva saw his penalty saved by Emiliano Viviano, while Lazio missed several sitters.

“At this moment we are not a great team. It’s not enough to play a good game, you need to be more determined in your finishing.”

Inzaghi took over from Stefano Pioli as a caretaker manager, but has never disguised his desire to remain.

“I am working towards earning my place here next season. The team is following my guidance and we have put in four good performances.”
