Their names were Marcelo Bielsa, Laurent Blanc, Rudi Garcia and Allegri.

“I can confirm that. Allegri couldn’t free himself from the Milan contract,” said Sabatini.

Allegri, now flying high after a Scudetto triumph at Juve, was fired by Milan in February 2013.

It is consistently reported that Allegri wants ex-Roma defender Benatia in Turin, though Bayern Munich only bought him for €28m two years ago.

“I don’t feel that Juve need my advice on the transfer market. Medhi is a formidable player, but a bit long-winded. He is a great talker, all of it to help construct a great defensive unit.

“At that time, Roma didn’t want to sell the player, but he kept presenting himself to different clubs who could’ve been interested in him.

“I then called him a pale imitation of the player we had seen.”
