“We have earned our right to the Champions League preliminary round and can still improve that position. We have to give credit to the lads and our Coach, as it was not a foregone conclusion,” Baldissoni told Mediaset Premium.

“We are happy for Strootman, as we know his strength, desire to battle and to excel. He suffered a great deal, we share this wonderful joy with him of seeing him in the starting XI.

“It seemed to be a series of infinite difficulties, but they are finished now.”

If Strootman is fully fit for next season, could that affect Roma’s transfer strategy regarding Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic?

“I want to remind everyone that Strootman and Pjanic were already playing when we signed Nainggolan. The choices that will be made will be regardless of Kevin’s presence.

“The rumours about Nainggolan and Pjanic are purely newspaper gossip.

“Genoa are a strong side, have been playing regularly under the same Coach for a while and are particularly good on home turf.”

Naturally, Baldissoni was asked for any updates on the Totti contract situation.

“I prefer not to say anything, as this is a dialogue the President prefers to carry on himself with the captain. We are close to the end of the season and that means we are close to a definitive solution.

“All that has happened over the last few weeks could influence that decision, but it’s a decision that will be made between two of them, not just the club.”

Some Roma ultras are planning to return to the Stadio Olimpico for the last home game of the season against Chievo, but will it be Totti’s last?

“I don’t know if the announcement could be before the Chievo game or not. I don’t think it matters, as Francesco could continue playing for Roma, if he doesn’t then we’ll celebrate him in a different occasion that is more suitable.”
