Alessio Cerci will undergo surgery to resolve a right knee cartilage issue on May 10, confirmed Genoa.
The operation will be performed by Professor Ramon Cugat in Spain on Tuesday.
Genoa released a statement confirming the decision was made in agreement with Atletico Madrid, who still own the player.
This means if Cerci was going to be called up for Euro 2016, then he is unavailable.
Cerci began the season on loan at Milan, then moved to Genoa in order to get more playing time in January.
