A few weeks ago Veron confessed he’d love to “return to Lazio as President with Simeone as Coach and Alessandro Nesta as director of sport.”

Today he spoke to Radiosei in Rome and confirmed “my memories of Lazio are all wonderful, even those of defeats. It was the best period of my sporting life and that was true off the pitch too.
“I found a marvellous city and people who allowed you to live in a very relaxed environment. If I had to think of a precise moment to single out, it’d be the final whistle in Perugia (where Juventus lost 1-0) and our celebrations at the Circo Massimo.
“I think that team could’ve won more, maybe the Champions League or challenge for the next Scudetto, but we were too inconsistent. It was such a strong squad, but then at that time in Italy the level of competition was so high.”
Veron is still keeping a close eye on his former club and reveals he’s not the only one attached to Lazio.
“If I were the current directors, I’d step aside and leave the club to someone who can bring changes and allow the fans to dream.
“You don’t just need certainty, as people want grand ambitions too. If someone else could provide all that, I’d step aside.
“Could I return to Lazio? It is a thought I’ve had. If I can give a hand and move those sentiments that go beyond money to help the club return to the top, I wouldn’t hold back.
“Cholo Simeone also told me he'd be prepared too, he said it to me in private. We experienced such strong emotions in Rome, each of us would be prepared to bring the smile back to the fans.”
Another of Veron’s former teammates, Simone Inzaghi, is now their caretaker manager.
“Remembering Simone as a player, it’s difficult to imagine him as the Coach of Lazio. He really evolved as a person and a professional.
“This bench represents a prize for him and I hope he can have a fine career. If he’s there, it’s because he deserves it.
“The best thing is knowing the fans still remember and care for me. I salute the Lazio fans, who always remained within my heart and that of my family.”
