The capital club were impressed with the Argentinian’s vision of an organised, constant pressing game capable of switching between 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 formations.

A contract was also discussed and an agreement reached in principal for Sampaoli to join for two years, although economic terms are yet to be negotiated.

Valencia and Espanyol are also believed to be chasing the tactician, but he’s believed to be intrigued by Lazio and the challenge of Serie A.

Further talks will reportedly take place today as the two parties close in on an agreement.
