Atalanta winger Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez is now an Italian citizen and could play for the Azzurri.
The 28-year-old Argentine completed the paperwork this morning and was handed full Italian citizenship, as confirmed by his club.
Gomez has spent most of his career in Serie A, at Catania from 2010 to 2013, then after a brief one-season spell at Ukrainian club Metalist Kharkiv he returned to Atalanta in 2014.
He is the current top scorer for Atalanta this season, providing seven goals and seven assists in 33 Serie A appearances.
With his pace and tricky footwork on the left flank, Il Papu could be called up by Antonio Conte for his Euro 2016 squad.
He only ever played for Argentina at Under-20 level, scoring two goals in 11 caps.
