Genoa striker Leonardo Pavoletti regrets the injury that kept him from the Azzurri, but thinks he can still convince Coach Antonio Conte.

Italy are holding a training camp at the moment, which the former Juventus Coach is using to test out alternative formations.

“I've had a good season, with a few ups and downs due to injury,” Pavoletti told the Press. “I'm here and I'm super happy about it. I'm giving it my all, but Conte will be the one deciding if I go to France.

“Serie A is full of foreigners and the Italians have less and less room to move. The good ones, however, can carve their own place.

“Euro 2016 would be a dream, but everyone has their own story,” he said, when asked about comparisons with surprise Azzurri call-ups like Paolo Rossi or Salvatore Schillaci. “I hope I can be called up. It depends on what happens these days.”

Pavoletti was recently praised by Genoa President Enrico Preziosi and Coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

“Hearing praise from the likes of them, who normally don't talk very much, is something that makes me very happy. It means they recognised my good work in these months and the drive I've been showing. It's an extra prize for me.

“It's a shame about my injury, because I'd have had greater chances if I'd been here earlier. You can't look back, but I'm happy anyway because I was given this opportunity as a comeback.

“I think about the present moment and about training. If the Coach likes me, I'll get called up, even if this is the first time here for me.”
