Sampdoria
Antonio Cassano wants “clarity” on his Sampdoria situation. “I intend to have a super season, no matter where I am.”

The striker fell down the pecking order at Samp under both Walter Zenga and Vincenzo Montella, while there were also reports of a huge locker room row with club directors.

“I am training practically every day, as this summer must be different to the last two,” Cassano told Secolo XIX newspaper.

“We had a horrendous season and the only positive thing about it was securing Serie A safety. We all gave less than we could’ve done.

“For the second year running I didn’t take part in pre-season training. I think I’ve given my contribution and this shows I can still be decisive, but I cannot be happy when I watch so many games from the stands and I didn’t understand the reasoning behind all of them.

“I am 33 years old, going on 34. When the time comes, I will be the first to raise my hand and say enough, but right now I still feel the hunger to play football and have fun. If I’m not playing, then I’m not having fun…

“In life nobody gave me anything and that won’t change now. When Sampdoria call, I will tell them what I think. If we share the same ideas, then I’ll be very happy, but if not then we’ll see what to do next.

“All I ask is for clarity and to avoid ‘assumptions’ on me. I never did understand the term ‘project’ in football. What I want is to be considered at the same level as everyone else, then whoever does better will play.

“I intend to have a super season, no matter where I am. As far as I am concerned, I am at Sampdoria.

“I know that I can be decisive for Samp,” continued Cassano.

“I’m happy here and can allow myself to put happiness first. I am training hard and will continue to do so throughout the summer holidays.

“I want to start the season like a rocket. I am proud, but I need clarity.”
