Emanuele Giaccherini said Italy "have to be optimistic" going into Euro 2016 after beating Scotland.

"I thought it was a good Italy performance, though obviously there is more to do, as we know full well what we did tonight is not enough in a tournament," the Bologna man told Rai Sport.

"We have to be optimistic, as if we go there feeling negative then we won't go far.

"We need to have faith in ourselves and we know it'll be tough, but we will be hard to beat.

"Scotland picked up 15 points in a group with Germany and Poland, so they are not to be underestimated, and tonight we allowed them half a chance.

"I think the strong point of this Nazionale has to be the team unit, that everyone sacrifices himself for his teammate and works together.

"We must all try to work together harmoniously and be a tough, solid unit.

"There are many strong wingers in this squad, so the Coach needs me more in the middle at the moment."
