The Azzurri secured qualification into the Round of 16 with yesterday’s 1-0 win over Sweden.

Antonio Conte divided the squad into two groups for this morning’s training session at the Montpellier base.

Candreva did not take part due to a right thigh issue, while Buffon started out with the team and then moved to the gym, reportedly because his cold has flared up again.

Medics confirmed Candreva has a right adductor problem and is being monitored on a daily basis.

Emanuele Giaccherini also interrupted the session early.

Conte is expected to make numerous changes for Italy’s final Group E game against the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.

As Buffon is not feeling well and picked up a yellow card against Sweden, the captain could well be rested in favour of Salvatore Sirigu.

Italy made only one change from the starting XI that beat Belgium 2-0, as Alessandro Florenzi stepped in for Matteo Darmian.

Without the pressure of needing a result to qualify, the Nazionale could use a more attacking formation with Stephan El Shaarawy, Ciro Immobile and Simone Zaza.

Florenzi could also be moved over to his more traditional role on the right side of midfield.
