“I got the response I was looking for. It’s a shame about the third result, especially when we thought we had it in hand.

“Everyone got a run-out and gave a positive response.”

Did Lorenzo Insigne spark the game into life?

“I don’t know. It was a very physical match, I introduced Insigne when the Irish defence spread out a bit and created gaps from the midfield.

“I have nothing to reproach my players for.”

Italy face Spain in the Round of 16, so are the Azzurri now on the same level as the reigning champions?

“I don’t know, you are all so good at judging, so you tell me.”
