Real Madrid’s Alvaro Arbeloa has emerged as Milan’s main defensive target for the summer.

The Rossoneri have just appointed Vincenzo Montella as their new Coach, but given that he often plays a 3-5-2, they are short at the back.

Alessio Romagnoli and Cristián Zapata are certainties, and Gabriel Paletta could stay at San Siro after returning from Atalanta.

While Arbeloa is primarily known as a full-back, he has played in the centre before, and La Repubblica reports that Montella believes he could do well as part of a three-man defence.

The newspaper reports that Arbeloa could be allowed to move on a free transfer, but decisive talks between the clubs will only take place after Montella’s official presentation on July 7.
