Empoli have officially confirmed the signing of Palermo striker Alberto Gilardino on a two-year contract.
The World Cup-winner hasn’t been particularly enthused about the transfer, saying it was “most certainly not my decision”.
Despite those reservations, it has today been officially confirmed that the former Fiorentina man will return to Tuscany.
“Empoli FC announces the outright signing of the player Alberto Gilardino,” a statement on the club’s official website began.
“The striker has signed a contract until June 30, 2018.”
The 34-year-old has 188 Serie A goals in his career, putting him inside the top 10, level with Alessandro Del Piero and Beppe Signori.
