The Coach released an interview to the Guerin sportivo, although it being a monthly publication, his statements were probably made some time before the rumours began that he might leave the club.

“The new owners have only just arrived,” said Mancini. “Let's think about working together in harmony. We'll deal with the future later. I have to get to know them, and they must get to know me, that's logical. But there are some good premises.

“I love this club too much to ever betray it. I'll never be a dead weight. If someone doesn't want me, I'm ready to move aside.”

“I don't see any alternatives [to foreign ownership] for our clubs if they want to compete with the great international teams. Now from the Far East we're getting some important investors who bring new ideas and a winning mentality.

“Clearly they're coming to win. The impact seems good to me, there's great enthusiasm and you've got to run with it.”

Il Mancio already worked with an international owner like Sheikh Mansour when he was at Manchester City.

“The fact that the president isn't there doesn't have a negative impact if the club is well-organised. You just have to create a solid structure, be ambitious and work hard. You shouldn't believe people who claim that the distance of presidents can condition the team.

“The Financial Fair Play regulations? Those are ridiculous limits and I always contested them. Why should clubs be penalised when they have a solid president who can guarantee revenue, merchandising and continuity?

“Why sanction clubs that, although in debt, are robust? Besides, these rules are side-stepped with high-finance stratagems. Inter this season will be penalised but I hope we can work without being too affected.”

The new ownership seems bent on signing younger players.

“There are some excellent talents around, like Domenico Berardi and Gabriel Jesus. But you need the patience to let them grow. You must find a middle-ground, they can play alongside the champions.

“Geoffrey Kondogbia? I'm satisfied with his first season in Italy. You'll see, he'll become one of the best midfielders in Europe. He's young, he switched teams and environment, let's give him time. Unfortunately in Italy players are judged too quickly.”
