Napoli have finally broken their silence on Gonzalo Higuain. “He never said he wants to leave and Juventus never asked for him.”
The striker’s agent – who is also his brother – said he wouldn’t renew his contract in the current conditions.
This sparked a flurry of speculation on interest from Juventus and Arsenal, both prepared to pay his €94m release clause.
The club has been notably silent, but broke that this evening in a Q&A with fans at their Dimaro training retreat.
“Gonzalo never said he wanted to leave,” said head of communication Nicola Lombardo from the stage.
“Juve have never asked for him and (President Aurelio) De Laurentiis doesn’t want to sell him.
“It’s all the fault of the media, who like to pile story upon story. He will be here on July 25.”
