Arrigo Sacchi backs the idea of bringing former players in as Milan's directors and comments on Paolo Maldini, Billy Costacurta and Demetrio Albertini.
The three players are being linked to the Rossoneri as they may be re-employed as technical staff and advisors, although for the moment this is more of an idea than a project.
“It would be absolutely useful to have that figurehead,” Sacchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “But I'll take this line of reasoning beyond and say it's more about having clear ideas for the future than establishing a link with the past.
“Albertini was my federal vice president when I was in charge of the Azzurri youth squads. He has directorship experience of the highest level.
“Unfortunately in the FIGC, as in politics, it's not merit that gets you forward but other factors. I wouldn't have let him go anywhere. With the federation you need a lot of patience and maybe that's what he was lacking.
“Maldini has turned into a true man. He never built his life on opportunism, just look at how he handled the relationship with the ultras. He demonstrated moral and ethical richness.
“Of course, he is not as experienced as Demetrio, but he has great intelligence, as does Costacurta. Billy built his career thanks to his interpretation skills. In his case, again, intelligence is an essential factor.
“I'm very grateful to all these players for their humanity and professionalism. And I'd add Galliani to these names, as he's a guarantee.
“There has to be Italian pride, this is what I'd like to see at Milan as they become great again. And it's important to know the environment in which you're moving. The Chinese will have to trust those who know better.”
