The sale of John Stones to Manchester City left a gaping hole at the back, which Ronald Koeman's team is trying to fill by turning to Serie A.

According to Calciomercato.it, their primary target would be Koulibaly, although Napoli's reluctance to sell the Senegalese makes a deal very unlikely. Developments, in any case, are expected in the next two-three days.

The other two big names from Italy that are being considered are Rugani from Juventus and Murillo from Inter, though the former option is also very ambitious.

Everton could still find their defender outside of Italy, as Manchester City's Eliaquim Mangala and Valencia's Shkodran Mustafi are being monitored.
