The Italy international’s agent complained bitterly this week at the wages on offer for a contract renewal and criticised the ‘project’ at the club after Gonzalo Higuain’s move to Juventus.

Arsenal had been the leading contender for Insigne’s signature if he were to leave his hometown club.

However, Sky Sport Italia made a shock report this evening that Inter could go for Insigne.

They see him as an alternative to first choice Gabriel Barbosa, known commonly as Gabigol, who is also wanted by Juventus, Leicester City and Atletico Madrid.

Curiously, Inter and Napoli are in negotiations anyway because the Partenopei have offered €62m for striker Mauro Icardi.
